Keep Your Eyes on the Prize

What do an aboriginal tennis player and a fashion designer specialising in bridal wear have in common? A fierce passion to make their dreams come true.

Henry Roth knows how to make his mark on the world, all the way from Sydney to New York. With a passion for fashion, he’s the mentor of Project Runway Australia and is the managing director of Australia’s leading bridal company, Henri Josef Bridal. Evonne Goolagong grew up as one of eight children and with a passion for tennis, became the World #1 tennis player.  Think it’s just dumb luck they became world famous from a childhood of nothing? Think again.

Knowing what you want for your life is one thing but having the determination to make it happen is another.  With your biggest goals and dreams, take the time to ask yourself: what steps am I taking to make them come true? Do I really believe I can accomplish them, despite what the present and past has taught me about mistakes and failure? Forget what your present circumstance looks like, what has happened to you in the past, or your limitations according to others. Nothing is more powerful than today and the choices you make from here on out. Take control.

“People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who really make it in this world are the ones who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they can’t find them, they make them.”

Tired of feeling left in the dust? Trying to keep up with the rat race but you’re barely making a dent in your success? Forget what everyone else is doing (except a motivational mentor you feel inspired by) and take advantage of any and all opportunities that come your way, bringing you closer to your dream life.  Insist on creating your own path and don’t focus on being ‘normal’.  What do you want to achieve most?

Crave and expect only excellence. Practice being diligent by envisioning your life in the most elaborate, dream like existence that your fantasies will allow.  Now imagine that this fantasy is not actually a fantasy, but real.  There’s a saying out there stating that you will only be as great as you can imagine, so go deep, dream wide and open and insist on excellence – and in return you’ll receive it.

Insist on positivity. Any successful artist, author, athlete or CEO knows that hearing a negative comment from time to time is inevitable and can’t be controlled. What can be controlled is their reaction to it.  Successful people take the decision to ignore the pessimism, learn from the feedback, adapt their approach if necessary and move on towards their dream. Do that, and you’ll be 100 steps ahead of the rest.

Dream on a large scale, and then keep going. Dream big and then dream bigger. Remember the mind is your most powerful tool, so whatever you have the capability of dreaming, you can achieve.
