    mobile phones cancer

If cigarettes came with a protection guard so that you could still smoke without getting cancer, there would be a lot more people smoking! Where's our warning for mobile phones then?

For some time now there have been speculations about cancer causing radiation effects emitted from mobile phones. Effectively giving us cancer. No not overnight, but over a long period of time. Not much different from asbestos and smoking! What I don’t understand is that if there is a “possibility” why wouldn’t we take precautions? Why are we waiting for there to be an absolute definite? We have our houses insured on the in case; our cars insured on the in case, we wear seatbelts and helmets, in case. So why not a guard, a shield to protect us from radiation from mobile phones… in case!

It is our children who are most at risk here. They are the ones being exposed to these kinds of radiation on their developing brain. And yet, we seek to protect them from minor cuts and bruises yet not serious brain tumours.

According to a recent study by the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the largest ever to look at possible links between mobile phones and brain cancer, threw up inconclusive results but researchers said suggestions of a link demanded deeper examination.

Experts who studied almost 13,000 mobile phone users over 10 years hoping to find out whether the devices cause brain tumours say their research gave no clear answer.

“We can’t just conclude there is no effect,” said Elisabeth Cardis of the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona, Spain, who led the study.

“There are indications of a possible increase. We’re not sure that it is correct. It could be due to bias, but the indications are sufficiently strong… to be concerned.”

Because of this and because mobile phone use is rising all the time, more research was needed, the scientists said.

The 21 scientists were part of a group known as the Interphone International Study Group which was funded in part by money from mobile phone companies. The study was published in the International Journal of Epidemiology.

Mobile phone use has increased dramatically since its introduction in the early-to-mid 1980s. About 5 billion mobile phones are in use worldwide.

Here’s a little math. The radiation from a transmitter follows the usual square law principles; double the distance and you divide the radiation by 4. So you move the radio transmitter from your ear (read mobile phone) and hold it in your hand and you have shifted the source of radiation say to 1/10 the distance from your brain, this means it’s getting 1/100th the level of radiation compared to jammed up to your ear. Small signal you say? Think about it!

Your mobile phone signal can reach a tower tens of kms away and still have enough power to be able to be heard by the tower receivers in amongst all the thousands of other mobile phones. Do some maths on the square laws and find out just how small this signal is compared to what’s heading into your brain if the tower is only 1km away.

If you consider the distance from your ear to be 10cm from the centre of your brain, the tower gets just 1 one hundred millionth of that signal. That’s 1/100000000 count the zeros there should be 8.

Would you put a phone to your ear again?

I invested $25 in a Stealth Radar Shield for my phone. Sounds like something Dr. Spock would use I know. But is just a small simple guard for my phone. Now I can use it and know for sure that I’m protected. Because what is possible, simply IS!

We have to use mobile phones, and they don’t manufacture what’s best for us, so I’m not going to wait around for someone to build a radiation free phone and I’m not going to be effected by it either. I never trusted them when the first warnings were there. I bought one of those stealth radar covers ages ago. I wish they were mandatory when you bought the phone. I just ordered mine online for $25. “Great picture! What an irony! Mobile phones save our lives while slowly killing us! This is a joke. We have had those radar protection units ( i know cause I bought one for $25 – htp://www.marketaustralia.com.au/ericbaileyglobal/product-2214/stealth-radar-shield.htm) for ages, the US military use them. We spend billions of dollars on cancer research and all the money just goes into finding a new chemical to pump into us. Why can’t we be a little pro-active instead of always being reactive. Using a phone without a stealth guard is like having random sex without a condom!”

http://www.news.com.au/technology/how-much-radiation-does-your-mobile-emit/comments-e6frfro0-1225786143978“Why don’t they just sell those radiation guards with the phone? They only cost $25. http://www.marketaustralia.com.au/ericbaileyglobal/product-2214/stealth-radar-shield.htm”

I wasn’t going to wait. You wear a seatbelt right, in case you might have an accident. You don’t smoke in case you don’t get cancer. Why wouldn’t we protect ourselves from radiation “in case”? You can get those guards for your phone for like $25 in Aus. Why aren’t they sold in the store? That’s what I want to know! Just as easy to order online like i did – but i think they should be sold with the phone. Then the rest of us can still decide. http://www.marketaustralia.com.au/ericbaileyglobal/product-2214/stealth-radar-shield.htm”

http://www.timeforwellness.org/blog-view/cancer-causing-environmental-chemicals-grossly-125“I can add to your list above. For reducing radiation exposure, I bought one of those radiation protection guards online for only $25. You can’t buy them when you buy the phone, (which is ridiculous) and I think that it is so important for our teenage kids. They are the ones most at risk as they have a longer life with a fresh developing brain, on mobiles than we did. I got mine from an Australian site…… http://www.marketaustralia.com.au/ericbaileyglobal/product-2214/stealth-radar-shield.htm

One question I frequently get asked from school students from all around Australia is “why do I have to do all this homework?” Some students think that studying is boring and not necessary because they will just get a job after they leave school. Let me keep it real for you. School and homework teach you important life lessons that you will use as an adult. It’s better to step out into the real world fully equipped than not.

Research shows if you do your homework and study with a purpose to achieve an outcome you will achieve academically. Homework teaches you everything from how to read and understand information to how to communicate ideas with others, problem solve and manage your time better. Training yourself to be dedicated to your studies in school will prepare you for the demands of life.

What motivated me to stay focused, study hard and do my homework, what are the consequences I would have faced not doing it. Sometimes I would ask myself “What would happen if I didn’t do my homework?” “Would I get a bad grade?” “Would my teacher or parents be disappointed with me?” Those were consequences I didn’t want to face.

Just remember in the real world knowledge helps you master the rules of the game…and if you don’t know the rules, then you will lose the game. If knowledge is power…ignorance is minimum wage!!

But don’t just take my word for it. Let’s take a look at the life of Thomas Edison. With only three months of formal education, Edison went on to be one of the greatest inventors and industrial leaders in history. Edison valued long, hard work. He used to say, “Genius was one per cent inspiration and 99 per cent perspiration”.

If you want to turn homework into an atmosphere of fun learning then what you need to do is break down the tasks into small bite size portions so that the information is easier to digest. Find a space (at home or school) that is comfortable and has plenty of light. Complete the hardest assignments first and ensure that you take 15 to 20 minute breaks every hour. Drink plenty of water and avoid sugary drinks before and during your study periods. Don’t forget to reward yourself for each section of homework that you complete. Without having a routine like this I would have never been able to achieve the goals I set out for myself. I hope my message has instilled some motivation in each of you to go out there and live life to your fullest potential!

So hit the books and holla at me next time!

    Winning The Title

After 3 long years of relentless mentoring and “activational mind adjustments”, blood, sweat, and tears!!! Last night at 10:35 pm a Logan city kid became Australian “light middle weight champion”. Tyrone “The Cyclone” Tongia turned potential into reality! Only a small percentage of the 5 billion people on the planet will ever experience a significant portion of their true potential. Take some time today and ask yourself 3 questions: 1. Why am I here? 2. What am I capable of doing? 3. By what process can I maximize my ability? There’s a wealth of potential in you. I know, because God has shown me the vast store he placed in me. Don’t close your shop with all the goods still on the shelves. You are so much more than what you have done!

    king

Over the last few weeks I have been bombarded with questions about leadership, courage, and management styles.

For over 10 years I worked in the fields of sales and customer service driven industries.  Before that I spent over 14 years in the professional sporting industry as a player, coach, and executive board member and in all those years I learned something very valuable and enlightening. I learned that it takes true courage to lead a TEAM to a successful outcome.

The Reverend Martin Luther King stood up with courage to raise his voice of hope to millions of fellow Americans, white AND black, to dare to believe in a World where all people could share the bounties of the Earth without prejudice. He opened the doors for possibilities that did not exist before then, possibilities that are now becoming real.

How about going one step further? How about if the leaders within your organization were awakened to a purpose that was aligned to your organization’s goals? What would that mean to your organization?

As we face an uncertain economy and the rise of unemployment, what can you as a Leader do to give your TEAM the confidence to believe in the goals of the organization and the Vision of where you are taking them?

I want to leave you with some very famous Leadership quotes that I have used to help me understand my role as a Leader in my field, business, relationships and life. I think it is very important to work on being more than just a passenger in the ever changing lanes of life.

Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.

    Peter F. Drucker

A leader is a dealer in hope.

    Napoleon Bonaparte

The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it.

    Theodore Roosevelt

Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.

    Dwight Eisenhower

As you journey into the second half of the year. There are five important characteristics to remember about great Leadership:-

     1. Courage

Standing up for what you believe in. Having the intgrity to be bound by your principles.

     2. Conviction

Leadership development also includes the ability to influence one person at a time.

     3. Confidence

A true leader instinctively knows how to lead. Of course, this is a leadership development quality that must be practiced, attempted, and refined throughout someone’s life. If there is an argument over who should be leader, a good leader knows to step back; it is sometimes through the perception of others that they will gain ultimate leadership.

     4. Compassion

Compassionate leadership development is necessary in today’s workforce. Gone are the days where employees work for decades at the same company, regardless of the conditions. Today, employers deal with single parents, expensive childcare, sick children, no insurance, and poverty level conditions.

    5. Creativity

A true leader is not afraid to try to new things. Letting your gut tell you whats right  sometimes can be very envigorating!

I hope this has been helpful to all my readers.

     Peace

    ghost-mirror

Over the last week there has been a real sense of loss sweeping the globe. There was the death of actress, Farrah Fawcet and also the highly publicized death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson. I was thinking the other day as I watched some of the TV press on both individuals, that it doesn’t matter what you have accomplished in your life – there is only two things that bind us all together in one way – we are born and then we die!

There is one line, in one of my favorite Michael Jackson classics “The Man in the Mirror”. It says, “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change.”

But my thoughts are, before you can change the World, we must change how we see ourselves and develop a positive self image of who we are. It’s time we stop judging ourselves by the standards of society, TV, sports icons and anyone who thinks or looks like the current standard barrier of hope, happiness, and success. We are finding out now that everything that seems to work for everyone else clearly doesn’t have a happy ending.

So be the architect for your own painting.

Self-esteem is how you see yourself as a person. If you value the type of person you are, you have a good sense of self-esteem and you’re proud to be you. You value your skills and talents, respect your own intelligence and act on your beliefs and feeling. But if you could feel better about yourself, these tips might give you some ideas about how to start.

    Listen To Self-Talk

We all carry on a steady mental dialogue. Do you ever put yourself down or call yourself names? Learn to listen to the things you say about yourself and then replace that dialogue with positive images.  Stop negative self-talk at the source to take the first step toward a more positive self-image.

    Be Tolerant

Be Tolerant of yourself and others. Nobody’s perfect. Try not to criticize yourself or other people habitually and don’t expect others to criticize you. Recognize that a mistake is only a mistake and don’t dwell on it.

    Know Good Friends

Spend time with people who value you. Listen to what they say about you and welcome their open, honest thoughts. People you choose to be around are often mirrors of how you feel about yourself. You can find the best in yourself and others if you expect it!

Next time you look in the Mirror look for the good in you!!!

    student

I received a very complimentary email the other day after a school visit.  Receiving emails from students after a school visit is not uncommon and I love hearing the feedback.  But it’s very rare that a parent takes time to sit down at the computer and express their gratitude for the Keyway Program and the positive effect that my presentation has made on their daughter.  On that particular day I remembered talking about the economic climate and how students are competing on a global scale for that job that has not even been created yet.  I also talked about the enormous opportunities that they have right now to live, breath and relish in state of the art resources.  Now is the time to not make excuses about the things you don’t have but to appreciate the things you do have.

This particular parent mentioned that I had reinforced the values and messages that her and her husband are trying to instill in their daughter.

    To All Students and Parents…..

If you truly want to conquer the challenges that face us all at this time, then jump on the same page.  Devise a plan that includes a lot of positive self talk, open communication and family culture that lends itself to personal development and growth.

    Peace Out!

    ants

This might sound crazy but ants have the right idea about business.  Before you laugh check this out.  Every morning I feed my two little dogs dry food, little small morsels of dried beef.  At about 3:00pm I noticed that it might rain so I went out to get the clothes off the line.  As I walked near the dog’s bowls I noticed one piece of dried beef all by itself about one metre from the bowl.  To my surprise it moved.  As I got closer and had a good look there was one small ant trying to carry this humungous piece of food to a shaded area.  I was intrigued how disciplined and persistent this ant was, so I decided to watch and see how long and to what length this ant would go to reach it’s goal.

And then the penny dropped.  I saw fire ants race from the shaded area to relieve this exhausted and overworked ant.  The five ants gathered around the ant.  Looking like they put their antennas together as if to say “Good work, we appreciate you – have a rest”.

Then they, together, picked up the morsel and carried it to the safety of the TEAM!

WOW, what TEAMWORK!  There was a sense of purpose, accomplishment and appreciation.  Just imagine that if all our team, families, and communities had these ANT principles.

In my own backyard I was able to witness an amazing motivational session that truly gave me some valuable insight and practical substance.

Oh and by the way, the rain came down and yes the clothes did get wet!!  But it was worth it!

    ANTS RULE!

    take-the-shot

In south central Los Angeles, the gang violence was so bad after 6:00 pm that if you even looked like you were in a gang you could be picked up and taken to jail.

Despite the gun shots and the violence, every evening I needed to spend time working on the fundamentals of my game. It was boring, monotonous, and just plain dangerous to be out on the courts.

But how could I go to school the next day and tell my coach that I had an excuse why I didn’t do my two hours of homework and the two hours of skill and fundamentals on the court. My coach was of the school of thought that champions find ways to create greatness. Competitors find ways to just compete.

So many of my friends and fellow athletes lived there lives by making excuses about why they couldn’t achieve. Unfortunately for them they were surrounded by people who endorsed their behavior and never set acceptable boundaries for them and their goals dreams and aspirations.

My coach wanted me to be more than just an athlete. He wanted me to be a productive member of society. He wanted me to hold myself accountable for all my actions and decisions. He put the ball in my hands and said take the shot, but only if you are prepared to live with the result.

You can’t turn on the TV, Radio, or pick up a newspaper after the weekend of sport to hear that some high profile athlete has once again let him or herself down because of the personal boundaries that they have crossed.

To be blessed to have the talent to display in sport is a privilege and a honor. The responsibility of converting that talent into service to the community and humankind is a gift from God.

I have coached, played, worked and mentored successful athletes.  All athletes have the capacity to reach and maintain a high level of self discipline in their sport or arena.

Just imagine if they could transcend that feeling and status into all areas of there lives.

    checkered-flag

Yesterday, I watched the Holden cars race around the track at the Holden Driving Center. I was there to speak to the members of the Supply Cluster.

As the cars moved with so much speed and grace, I couldn’t help but notice the team of people who were supporting the drivers of the cars. It wasn’t just a one man effort. When you think about your organization and what it takes to cross the finish line first -it’s more than just the owner, the CEO, the Manager – It’s a complete TEAM effort.

As I spoke to the group, I pointed out the importance of giving praise and credit to all members of your TEAM. You would be surprised at how members of a team can feel isolated and disenfranchised because of their perception of their worth within an organization.

In some cases all it takes is a little recognition on a job well done,  that makes a difference between winning the checkered flag and not even finishing the race.

So the next time you head into the pit stop for some creative work on the running of your organization….

Make sure you show your appreciation to the CREW!!

Is anyone out there old enough or mature enough to remember the tricycle?  With the spokes in the wheels and the metal handle bars?  Well yesterday those days flashed back in my mind as I packed on bags of ice on my knees, and hip (the one that I have had replaced after years of professional basketball in the NBL in Australia).

I remember pedaling down the driveway to try and hurdle myself over a flowerbed and onto the nice grass surface. The only thing that would stop me was if I didn’t get enough speed up before the jump or if my feet slipped off the pedals and landed into the spokes of the wheel.

Well speed was not a problem on this day, but my big feet were!  As my feet raced off the pedals and got twisted into the wheel, I flew in the air and landed into the roughest part of the driveway. Cut and bruised, I laid there thinking how I would improve on the effort next time. There was no thought of giving up or self doubt.

Just as I began to try and get up I glanced up and there were hands and smiles greeting me with the sounds of “you almost made it”, “you looked great in the air”, “are you OK?”, “let me give you a hand up”, and “we are proud of you for being such a strong boy”.

Wow what a feeling it was to know that there were people who could and would support me through challenging times.

So what has led to this reflection of over 44 years of a past experience?  Because yesterday as I built up speed on my ultra modern stationary cycling bike at my local health resort to which I pay a hefty premium to keep up my fitness.  I once again got my big feet (size16) caught in the pedals and was thrown from the bike just as I did 44 years ago.

I lay on the carpet in pain, agony, embarrassment, and astonishment. But this time the support, compassion, assistance, and human care factor was absent.  I watched as 3 members of the gym and 1 personal trainer on staff observed my plight and simply turned and continued their own     work out.

Have we forgotten what it was like to fall down and have a helping hand waiting? If you look around the world, ask yourself what is it that is keeping most people from climbing off, getting up off their back and trying again.

The answer is not really that hard. Because the world has increasingly taught us that being on your back is better than getting up and falling down all over again.

Oh I am so glad that I love the pain of falling, because at least I know that I am not settling for just being average!

    NO PAIN – NO GAIN!
